Learning in Community
"The teacher is no longer merely the-one-who-teaches, but one who is him taught in dialogue with the students, who in turn while being taught also teach."
-Paulo Freire
At CITY Center for Collaborative Learning we learn in community. For us, this means:
The collaborative learning that happens in each classroom, so every student and teacher is learning in community
Each school is a learning community, where a safe, welcoming, and nourishing school cultures is a powerful learning community
The professional learning communities where we share best practices, support each other, a put students first. Our three schools learn in community with each other.
Our students get out of the classroom and into the community. Expeditions, Community Days, multi-day field trips, Intersession, internships, and daily explorations of our Tucson and SW community.
We connect with community and bring them into our schools. Guest speakers, elective teachers, co-planners, artists in residence, and more. We are constantly learning in community with experts in their fields to go beyond textbooks and explore real-world issues.
Our professional learning center collaborates with a wide range of educational experts and community builders. Our organizational expertise develops when we share, collaborate, teach, and learn in community.
Learning in Community means we are part of a network of community builders working together for social justice, for environmental sustainability, and for the health and wellness of this magical place.
